Check whether your PC meets the Demo requirements

Official Steam Demo requirements checked October 8, 2026 · not a performance benchmark

The short answer

The Demo's minimum is 64-bit Windows 10, 8 GB RAM and a dedicated graphics card with Vulkan 1.3 support and 4 GB VRAM. Its CPU examples are Intel i5-8400 or Ryzen 5 2600, with four cores and eight threads. Allow 2 GB of storage.

The developer explicitly says integrated graphics are unsupported and may crash. Meeting a memory total alone is not enough: shared graphics memory is not the same thing as the dedicated VRAM requirement.

The store notes that very large factories are CPU-heavy. These are developer specifications, not our measured frame rates or a guarantee that every factory runs smoothly.

Identify your hardware before comparing it

  1. Write down Windows, CPU and RAM. Open Windows Settings → System → About. Record the processor, installed RAM and system type rather than just the computer's brand name.
  2. Identify the graphics card. Open Task Manager → Performance and inspect each GPU entry. On a laptop there may be both integrated and dedicated graphics; record the dedicated card's exact model if one is present.
  3. Keep dedicated and shared GPU memory separate. Compare the dedicated memory figure with the VRAM requirement. Do not add shared system memory to it to claim the card meets the minimum.
  4. Check Vulkan support for that card and driver. Consult the GPU manufacturer's documentation. A DirectX version displayed by Windows does not establish Vulkan 1.3 support.
  5. Check the install drive's free space. Compare available space with the listed 2 GB requirement before starting the download.

Windows also provides dxdiag for collecting a system and graphics report. Microsoft documents opening it from Windows Search; Intel documents the Windows+R route. It is useful for a support report, but its DirectX version is not a Vulkan test. Share only the relevant hardware fields rather than posting the entire report with personal information.

Use the result to choose the next step

Integrated graphics only: the developer's support warning applies. This guide does not offer a launch flag that makes the hardware officially supported. Check whether the PC actually has a dedicated card before spending time on game settings.

Dedicated card, but an exact CPU error: use the SSE4.2 diagnostic. GPU memory does not answer a CPU-instruction question.

Requirements appear to be met, but a black screen remains: keep the GPU model, driver version, Demo build and failure stage together. Try the isolated OpenGL test if applicable, keeping the original launch options so you can restore them. Passing this checklist does not identify the cause of every black screen.

The Demo starts, but a large factory slows down: a launch test and a late-game CPU workload are different observations. Record the factory size and hardware when reporting performance; the store gives no measured machine-count limit.

Laptop, Linux, Mac and Steam Deck questions

A laptop is not automatically excluded: compare its actual dedicated graphics, processor and memory. Conversely, a desktop with only integrated graphics does not meet the stated graphics support condition.

The checked Demo listing supplies Windows requirements. It does not certify macOS, Linux/Proton or Steam Deck compatibility. The separate Linux Buy-button report is a player's UI workaround, not an official platform-support statement.

If the specifications match your machine, use the official Demo installation route. A later store update may change these requirements; the linked listing remains the place to compare a new build.
